The 2023 WingFoil Racing World Champions have come to an end! After a season of five events in Abu Dhabi, Lake Garda in Italy, Silvaplana in Switzerland, Cagliari in Sardinia, and finally in Jericoacoara, Brazil, two of our ambassadors stood on the final podium. For the second year in a row, the Frenchman Mathis Ghio became the World Champion, while Luca Franchi concluded the competition with a third-place overall finish.
The standard of competition has risen
As for Mathis Ghio, the performance gap is certainly closing on the best male rider in the world. However, the Frenchman was still the standout performer in Jericoacoara, enjoying a double victory by winning the final event of the season and securing the overall world championship for the second consecutive year. Regarding the future of this fast-growing sport, the standard of competition has risen immensely over the past year. Mathis Ghio believes that the 2022 version of himself wouldn't have made the top 10 in the 2023 showdown in Jeri.
Sailmon MAX as a Training Tool
Both ambassadors use the Sailmon MAX to improve their performance on the water. "The MAX is a real game changer! It helps me track my trainings and races to see where I can improve and to understand how to push the wingfoil discipline to the limit," says Luca. Mathis Ghio is also very positive about the system and platform: "Wingfoil racing is still a very young sport, and with my materials engineering studies, MAX helps me have accurate and exact data from my sessions to improve both my equipment and technique, aiming to be the fastest during races."
