James Spithill on board Macif for 48 hours

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]”The last three hours were extreme, frightening and fast,” says America’s Cup winner James Spithill on board of the by Sailmon equipped Trimaran Macif. François Gabart invited Spithill for a 48-hour trip at high intensity. Although Spithill is a very experienced sailor, he is clearly impressed by the intense race and the performance of Gabart. During the trip the Trimaran Macif reached speeds of 47 knots.

“You think about what Francois does. Just doing such speeding and pushing the boat, day after day, hour after hour. Until you’ve experienced that, you really have no idea,” says Spithill. “And it’s just incredible. I mean, pitch black 01:00 in the morning and you’re doing everything with a general speed of 43/44 knots on an autopilot. Now Francais is able to do this day after day and without sleep is mindblowing.”

Francois Gabart is a French professional offshore yacht racer who won the 2012-13 Vendée Globe in 78 days 2 hours 16 minutes, setting a new race record. In 2017 he set the speed record for sailing around the globe in 42 days 16 hours 40 minutes and 35 seconds. He was sailing singlehanded in the 30 meter Trimaran Macif. Francois was using the latest marine equipment from Sailmon to achieve his incredible results.
