After a long summer break, the American Phaedo2 was back in the water for the second half of the D35 Trophy. During last weekends Open Yacht Club Geneva, the team had a difficult start in Switzerland but eventually managed to sail a strong race. Team manager Rachel Fallon-Langdon looks back with satisfaction on the results achieved with the Sailmon equipment: ”The starting package is the right way to find the line bias, and is all useful knowledge that Sailmon proves, along with distance to the line. It helped us achieve the results we wanted over the event.”

[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Open Yacht Club Geneva took place this weekend in tough conditions. Since the wind was above the regulatory limit of 22 knots, the organization was forced to cancel a number of races. “The decision was not easy to do,” said Bertrand Favre, the Master Series. ”But we can not take the risk of having a boat capsize.” The same scenario was played out on Sunday. Although the wind slightly softened, the conditions were not favorable enough to sail a race.

Eventually three races were sailed during the weekend. Team Phaedo2 had to settle for a last place in the first race. However, the team came back strong in the last two races with a satisfactory fifth place. Rachel Fallon-Langdonhad this to say: ”We were very happy to see the results achieved during the races over the weekend. We got the most out of the boat using our previous heavy air multihull and Volvo sailing experiences.” The yacht of Guy de Picciotto – Zen too – won the Open Yacht Club Geneva, ahead of Swisscom and Realteam. Despite there poor performance, Alinghi remains at the top of the overall standings.

Team Phaedo2 only has a few days of rest before the next event. The next stage of the D35 Trophy is the Crans Alinghi Grand Prix which will be held from September 7th to 9th. Strictly one-design, the D35 catamarans are combining performance and high technology. Competing on equal terms, the teams can showcase their expertise and their tactics. The circuit involves local Geneva Lake specialists, but also skippers and sailors of international renown. The combination of strong local athletes and the attendance of teams of the highest international level give the Vulcain Trophy a unique feel. The teams sail on strictly identical boats, the D35 multihulls, boats combining performance and high technology. This so-called one-design requirement allows sailors to compete on equal terms and to showcase their know-how and skill. The teams involved are among the best specialists in the Geneva regatta, as well as skippers and sailors of international renown. This combination of a local presence and the presence of world-class teams gives the D35 Trophy a unique character in the world.
